Review: testing theory and questionnaire design - Helfried Moosbrugger Augustin Kelava

"talk test, construct, interpret."
This volume of testing theory and questionnaire design I have succeeded!
_
Prof. Dr. Helfried Moosbrugger created with the Dipl Psych Augustin Kelava a comprehensive, science-based guide as an introduction and help in dealing with questionnaires. Both share the goal of this "as sound as necessary, but as simple as possible," proceed.
_
In a first step, the quality requirements, also known as test criteria, which include objectivity, validity or test efficiency are presented and defined in each case the point. The next chapter is devoted to planning and development. Here are the differences of each test species are described, such as performance tests, personality tests and instrumental tests. It follows the appearance of possible response formats with a clear outline of the schema object types.
The authors devote an entire chapter to each of the validity and the detailed explanation of the methods of Reliabilitätsbestimmung.
Part A concludes with the standards for psychological test.
Part B of the book is meant as an extension with additional amendments, in areas such as the issues are IRT (item response theory) or the latent class analysis addressed above all advanced reader.
_
The book is distinguished by a clear structuring and gains in clarity. The chapter numbers can be found on the respective sides at the upper right edge, so the topics can be found individually and quickly. Profitable were for me especially the comments on the item and selectivity analysis, and the statements for the systematic collection of readings per data matrix. The used box with concrete examples, graphs and diagrams are a useful addition and make important connections clear. Readers will also be grateful for the glossary at the end of the text, which holds for important terms to understand definitions.
_
Bottom Line: An extremely useful book, especially for students dealing with this area of questionnaire design and evaluation. The reading is worthwhile and is highly recommended!

5 Stars!

Conclusion: I would like to thank the Springer-Verlag textbook for providing this review copy.
